The diagnosis
Before you do something else, make sure the HVAC system is operational. It would be ideal if you were able to locate the service panel. Check to see whether the circuit breaker is on when you find the component. Each component has its own box, so look inside to see what isn’t functioning and turn that off.
Wait a minute after you’re sure there’s no power going through it until turning it back on. If there is a brown or blackened electronic component, it must be replaced. Take a photo of the pieces with your phone; it’ll be much easier to recall and explain to a store employee.
And there’s the thermostat. It’s a good idea to replace the batteries in it every six months. Don’t wait until the red flashing light appears to see if the batteries need to be replaced.
Air conditioning unit
There is a simple way to tell whether your air conditioner is down. First and foremost, ensure that the heating system is operational. Then, lower the temperature by around 10 degrees and set it to cool. Then, place your arm up against a vent and wait a minute to see if any cool air passes in.
If nothing has changed, you can look for water underneath the machine. This isn’t a big deal and can be fixed in a few hours. For a few hours, turn it off and don’t do anything.

Ventilation is important
Filters help keep polluted particles out of your house. Air from the outside is filtered with fans and then brought inside, whether cooled or hot. New thermostats, on the other hand, have an addition that raises the likelihood of a malfunction.
Those are the options for auto and on. Most people are unaware that setting the thermostat to on would cause it to run constantly without stopping. On the other hand, a car only functions when needed, making it a far superior choice.
Check the filter around once a month to see if it’s filthy. There’s typically an owner’s guide that explains how to clean it, so read it carefully. Take a photo of the arrow-pointing side of the filter. Since you might overlook which side the filter was on, this is critical.
