Create A Designer Look At Home on A Budget
People who’re looking to redecorate their home are often a little bit awestruck when it comes to where to start. Unless you’re currently working in the industry of interior decorating, you’re going to be a little bit confused at how much you should expect to spend. You might also be stumped on how much time you should allocate to redecorating.
We’ve compiled a quick list of ideas of where to focus your attention if you are planning on taking the plunge. These solutions will allow you to quickly get your living space in order without having to take out a second mortgage.
Think Windows
We don’t mean the operating system. The windows in any room are the key source of natural light. As a result of this, they’re one of the most highly illuminated parts of any room during the day. You should give some serious thought to how you choose to present this space, it’s often the first place people look.
Roman blinds are a solid choice for anyone looking to get a designer look in any room. You’re not just limited to choosing between blinds and curtains though. Decorating a bathroom? You might want to consider window film. You can find a bunch of highly artistic and great looking designs to place over your window. You’ll soften the light filtering through and get some privacy, to boot.
Think Radiators
Radiators, alongside windows, are one of the few things that are going to stay pretty much consistent across every room in the house. Flooring, wall decor and everything else can be pretty much interchangeable between rooms. But if you’ve got 5 different types of radiators in your house, people are going to notice.
Designer radiators come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re looking for a solid modern look then you might want to opt for some sort of vertical radiator. I found that trade radiators can be a good resource for scoping out different options and getting an idea of modest pricing.
Oftentimes there’s enough variety to choose from that you’ll be able to find something that compliments the look you’re going for.
It can also be tempting to stick a sofa or other large piece of furniture in front of a radiator. Please don’t do this. You’re inhibiting its ability to radiate heat evenly – and you might even be creating a fire risk too.
Think Clutter
This is a solution that won’t cost you any money. In fact, if you’re meticulous and objective enough with how you evaluate your living space, you might end up making money. Take a long and hard look at the various pieces of decor and furniture interspersed throughout your house. Is it too much?
It can be super tempting to scoop up shiny things as you go along, throw them in one area and call it well decorated. Unfortunately, this can cause more problems than it solves. For one, most of the furniture and decorative pieces you accumulate over the years are likely going to have been produced in different styles by different manufacturers. The differences will seem minute at first – but as you collect more clutter, they’ll become much more obvious.
Always remember, just because two pieces of furniture are the same colour, or even made from the same wood – doesn’t mean they’re compatible.
